Our history

For almost two hundred years, visitors have enjoyed the hospitality of the Crown & Anchor. A traditional English village hostelry with atmosphere and style set in the heart of picturesque Ham, formed from two cottages and still surrounded by buildings dating back to the Tudor period.

Originally it was a place for drinking and gambling for farm workers from the farms that still surround Ham – Crown & Anchor is a simple dice game played for gambling purposes and popular in the 18th and 19th Centuries. The other hostelries in Ham were more genteel.
